Electrochem Releases Multi-Pallet Wireless Sensing Solution for CNC Machining

November 18, 2011

CLARENCE, N.Y., Nov 18, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Electrochem Solutions, Inc. (www.ElectrochemSolutions.com) announced today the launch of its Multi-Pallet Wireless Sensing Solution targeted for CNC machining operations. The solution wirelessly monitors fixture clamping pressure for safe, efficient and precise machining of parts.

"Maintaining a specific hydraulic clamping pressure during the machining process is critical to avoid damaging equipment, costly repairs and delays in the production cycle, among other things," said Linda J. Collette, Director of Business Development & Marketing for Electrochem. "Our solution gives CNC operators unprecedented control and automation over the machining process, which can monitor up to 127 pallets, allowing machine shops both large and small, to reap these operational benefits."

The customer benefits of our new multi-pallet system include:

  • Easy programming and interfacing/set-up with existing equipment
  • Proactive monitoring of hydraulic clamping pressure while machining
  • Reliable, standards-based communications architecture built on IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee
  • Elimination of unsafe and impractical wires
  • Reduced operational costs and increased productivity via "lights out" manufacturing automation
  • Reduced maintenance and damaged equipment repair costs
  • Increased quality, on-time delivery and customer satisfaction

The multi-pallet system is comprised of wireless sensors and a base station. Electrochem's patented PressureSensorOne (PS1) is secured to the holding fixture to monitor and wirelessly transmit pressure measurements to the base station. The PS1 also transmits data such as temperature at the pressure port and inside the sensor, along with battery voltage to the base station, allowing operators to closely monitor the system's health.

Electrochem's BaseStationOne Multi-Pallet (BS1-MP), has an intuitively designed touch panel display that serves several functions. It is used to configure the wireless sensors' thresholds based on the fixture's requirements, set the data reporting frequency and activate "sleep mode" to conserve battery life and "awake" as required. In addition, the BS1-MP also monitors the machine's hydraulic clamping pressure and sends an alarm signal to the machine's controller if the pre-defined pressure thresholds are breeched.
